  1. 27?---1st run through guess B+C=10
    B+D=20
    D+C=24
    B+C+D=27
    Let me know if I am wrong & I will go back to the figuring board--it is still early here!

    1. Lulu ... oh Lulu ... I don't know how you did it. It took me ages and I still did not know how to work it out. Then someone showed me. I still didn't understand how to do it.

      You're right. The dog, cat and rabbit (bunny) weigh 27 kilos together. The rabbit is 3, the cat 7 and the dog is 17. That's kilos not their ages! My age is too old for this sort of thing.

      God bless you Lulu. And well done.

    3. Well done Lulu.

      I still don't understand how it was explained to me. I was told it is algebra and that you get two equations which negate each other and two minuses make a plus. I nodded and pretended to understand it all. The one who explained it to me is a maths teacher and he told me an 11 year old could do it. that boosted my confidence no end.

      God bless.

  3. This story quiz reminds me of a Math puzzle and/or trick that my grade nine teacher showed me after class one day.

    He told me to pick a number in my head from 1 to 10 so I chose the number 5 and kept "IT" to myself. Really? :)

    Anyway, he told me to multiply that number by 2 and follow with + 10 and then I was to divide by 2 and then I was told to subtract the number that I picked from the number that I had left.

    He finally said that my number was five, "I" mean he said, "You've got 5 left".

    Long story short, he told me that what he had just shown me was based on The Pythagorean Theorem and that the number that will be left can vary as to what we want it to be.

    After I tell those who will play along that there will be a little math involve so they should pick a number that they feel comfortable with. For some reason, the first time more people pick the number "5". Go Figure! lol

    Truth be known Victor #1, although I never forgot some of the great tricks that this good teacher taught me, I still don't understand how they really all came about?

    1. Maths can be very complicated; for me at least. Magical math tricks are fun though.

      Here's one you can try. Imagine a bus arrives at a bus stop empty. Once there 6 passengers get on. A little later the bus stops again. 4 passengers get on and 3 get off. Later still the bus stops and 8 passengers get on and 2 get off. A while further the bus stops and 6 passengers get on and 1 gets off.

      What is the name of the driver?

      God bless.

    2. They simply called that driver "1" who always got off at that spot for 1 coffee. Right? :)

      God Bless

  4. I got it. Here's the algebra:
    R+C+D=X
    R+C=10
    R+D=20
    D+C=24

    D=24-C
    R+24-C=20 > R+4=C
    R+C=10 > C=10-R

    R+4=10-R
    2R=6 > R=3

    C=10-3=7
    D=20-3=17

    D+C+R=X
    17+7+3=27 KG!

    I still know my algebra!

    1. Manny, I didn't understand what you wrote. But my Maths teacher friend said you're brilliant.

      God bless.
