Missing you

Then He led them out of the city as far as Bethany, where He raised His hands and blessed them. As He was blessing them, He departed from them and was taken up into Heaven. Luke 24:50.

After saying this, He was taken up to Heaven as they watched Him, and a cloud hid Him from their sight. They still had their eyes fixed on the sky as He went away, when two men dressed in white suddenly stood beside them and said, “Galileans, why are you standing there looking up at the sky? This Jesus, who was taken from you into Heaven, will come back in the same way that you saw Him go to Heaven.” Acts 1:9.

A few days after the Resurrection Jesus was raised to Heaven in full sight of His disciples.

Can you imagine how they must have felt?

They’d been with Him for three years or so. Saw Him preach and heal the sick. Witnessed His arrest, death and Resurrection. And now … He was gone.

They must have missed Him very badly as they walked back to their homes. Confusion, fear and doubts must have crossed their minds several times.

He is gone … and He is missed.

Missing somebody is a sign that their presence had an influence on your life, your well-being and your happiness.

Their absence now has created a void in your life. An emptiness, and a longing to be with them once again.

We’ve all missed someone at one time or another in our lives. It is usually someone who has been kind to us.

Are we ever missed when we are no longer there? Have we done something nice to someone who will remember us and miss our presence in their lives?

    1. That's right Melanie. To the Disciples seeing Jesus go would have caused them confusion no end.

      God bless.

  2. I'm sure they were sad, confused, and frightened until the Holy Spirit came down upon them and comforted them with His Presence. They probably didn't really understand much at all until then except pray and wait as Jesus had asked them to do. Come to think of it, the disciples were remarkably thickheaded before Pentecost and His leaving must have left them feeling lost and alone. It's amazing how the Holy Spirit transformed them.

    1. Yes Mary, the Disciples must have been totally confused and frightened when they saw Jesus leave. The power of the Holy Spirit and what He can do for us now, as He did then for the Disciples, is not well taught these days.

      God bless.

  3. Victor, I'm quite sure I wouldn't have understood and been caught in the emotion of the moment watching Him leave. Without the power of the HS, which as you say is not taught well these days, what hope to we have to be empowered to live our Christian life?

    1. It seems to me Caroline that it was the Holy Spirit who finally opened the Disciples' eyes and hearts and made them understand. The Holy Spirit does so today too; but many of us are not willing, or taught, to let Him do so.

      God bless you.

  4. I would have probably felt nostalgic, going over the precious moments spent with the Master.

It reminds me that it doesn't feel good when we are in the middle of the story and nothing makes sense. It is encouraging for me now!

    Great blog. Blessings to you!

  5. I'm definitely missing someone right now, even though he wasn't very kind to me at the last. Definitely he left a void in my life, but I'm happy to be filling that void with Christ's love. Still aches, though.
