Scientific Facts

I was reading a science book the other day and I was fascinated by the number of facts which I did not know. In fact the more I read the more I realised how much I did not know and how ignorant I really am.

For example; did you know that the majority of men with beards (about 68%) sleep with their beards tucked under the bed covers rather than over the bed covers?

And that beards grow faster and longer than hair on men's heads?

Human ears grow bigger in proportion to the rest of our bodies as we grow older? I remember I knew a man with his ears sticking out quite a bit. He looked like a car with its doors open.

Did you know that if you had a meal in a restaurant that is totally dark you would not be able to tell the difference between steak and a beefburger?

Did you also know that if you're in a vacuum and you shout loud no one would hear you? And it would make no difference whether the vacuum bag is full of dirt and dust or whether it was empty?

Do you realise that if you had a small bird in a cage and as you happen to weigh the cage if the bird jumped up from its perch then its weight would not register on the scale?

Also, if you were to weigh the cage under water the small bird would drown?

And in order to peel and cut an onion without tears you have to do it under water; that is if you can hold your breath for that long?

Here's a video I found with more scientific facts.

  3. Happy Feast Day, Victor! Today I read about St. Victor who was a soldier under the nasty emperor Maximian (emperor 286-305) who killed a lot of Christians at Marseilles where the Church was flourishing. Victor visited the faithful under the cover of darkness to encourage them not to falter, but was discovered himself. His martyrdom was gory to say the least, but in the process he converted his three prison guards. Thought you'd like to know about this valiant Christian whose name you bear. There are no scientific facts in this comment so I'll say I enjoyed your post.

    1. Thanx Barb. I knew vaguely that St Victor was a soldier; but I did not know the details you mention. Thanx for that Barb. Much appreciated.

I'm glad you enjoyed my scientifically proven post.

      God bless.

  5. Hi Mary,

These are all real scientific facts you know.

Did you also know that you can tell if it's a nice day from a cup of coffee. Make a cup of instant coffee. Don't add milk. Look at the bubbles at the top of the cup. If the bubbles are in the middle it's a nice day. If they're on the edge of the cup; it's raining.

You can also look out of the window instead.

    God bless.

  6. If you'd been my Science teacher, I just might have paid attention. Thanks for the scientifically sound and indisputable information. I hope everyone will take your word for it and stop weighing caged birds in water.

Now to go chop a handle off a door. Maybe I should carry two with me to Mass so I can offer the extra to those around me at the Sign of Peace? Y'think?

  7. Every thing I say here is the honest truth, Nancy.

And yes ... we should all carry at least two door handles. Actually, my door handles are fitted solidly to the doors in our house. Now I carry a door with me all the time and people shake handles on either side of the door. A bit heavy though!

    God bless.

  8. Thanks for the good advice, Victor. I'm just wondering whether it matters what type of door handle we use? My son likes the big, masculine wooden knobs but I'm wondering if they might hold more viruses than the little, dainty ceramics ones?

And, a true scientific fact here - did you know that onions attract viruses? So, if you keep a peeled onion in every room, you might ward off disease. I tried it, at home, and the children are all perfectly well but the viruses still found me:-( Maybe, I smell like an onion??

    God bless, Victor:-)

  9. I don't think it matters which type of door handle you use Vicky as long as you have a peeled onion at the end of it.

I heard about onions attracting viruses. That's why they go black apparently if cut in half and left in a room.

    God bless.

  10. Fact #38: You always keep us laughing. Thank you for that.

    God Bless.

(mental note to self: skip buying the steak next time and just turn the lights off ...)

  11. But Michael, all my facts are scientifically proven correct by this book I am writing.

    God bless.
