Enough of all this Blogging.

Someone asked me the other day: Why do you Blog?

I didn't have a good answer.

"Is it vanity?" I thought. "Do I really have anything important to say? And does anyone really care what I say?"

So I asked my old school friend William Shakespeare what started him writing and why did he bother. This is what he wrote:

To Blog or not to Blog
That is the question.
Whether it is nobler in the mind
To keep one’s thoughts to oneself
Than reveal them to all
On screens large and small.
And by doing such
Suffer the slings and arrows
Of outrageous readers
Who’d rather Block you
Than read your feeble Tweeters.
Or to bravely face your qualms
And courageously Blog on
Regardless of your audience
Be it great or be it small;
Just Blog on into eternity
And have yourself a ball!

So there you have it. I'm blogging and having a ball!

  1. Brilliant! Where would we be without the Bard to paraphrase, eh? - And you do it so well!

  2. Wish I would of thought of this. I blog to keep the connection with my online friends and because I have so much spare time to fill.
I do find it difficult to keep up when I am busy though then I feel guilty when I miss a day.....can't win but I love it......:-) Hugs

  3. Where do find these things?! :)

To be truthful, O Great Bard, I have asked myself these very same questions. God certainly doesn't NEED our input but I'm thinking He must enjoy it. I certainly enjoy my daughter's pictures and stories. I hang them on the fridge! Maybe God has a giant refrigerator in heaven where He proudly displays our infantile writings (for they surely are that to the God of all creation)! "That's my kid!" Beaming proudly of course!
    Blogging is fun!

  4. Victor-
Very clever and I love Shakespeare. Although I will admit your title scared me a bit; I thought we were seeing the end of Fr. Ignatius' words of wisdom.
I love Mary's response; I'm sure God is happily amused by our writings.

  5. Hi Miss Ellen, Bernie, Mary and Karinann,

I've often wondered why I and so many other people Blog. I like Christian Blogs of course because I learn so much from them; and it's our way of witnessing for God. It puts a little balance against all the bad stuff on the Internet.

I like Mary's suggestion that God keeps copies of our writings on His fridge. Can you imagine Him calling Jesus and Our Lady and having a good laugh at what we've written:

"Look at this one Jesus ... the poor soul has miss-quoted us yet again. They really have no idea these earthlings; have they?"

Anyway ... back to Blogging. I'm so glad that you keep up your Blogs as I've learnt so much from you; and from other readers whom I follow.

As for Fr Ignatius - I have a few stories still in store and they will be published here shortly. God willing.

    God bless you dear friends.

  6. That's funny! Well, we can just laugh with them! Besides, I ask them for wisdom and help before I post :)

When I read your post title I was worried that you were leaving the blogging community, too. I'm glad you're staying.

  8. Brilliant! And are you really on Twitter? I'm impressed!

I loved Mary's idea of our blog entries on God's refrigerator. Yes, I can really imagine that!

  9. Hello Mary, Tracy and Sarah,

It's so nice of you to write in. I'm not leaving Blogging; but when I was aked WHY I Blog the other day I had to think hard about it. I started just over a year ago and it just went on from there I suppose. I'm so pleased though when kind people like you say they enjoy my writing.

No Sarah, I am not on Twitter. I never quite understood that! I am told you're only allowed to post messages 140 characters long - well, my name alone will use up half of these characters! I understand the messages are transmitted on other peoples' cell phones and they can read them as they go along. Last time I read a message on my cell phone whilst going along I fell down the stairs.

I have a new cell phone which takes photos. I keep pressing the wrong button and taking pictures of my ear!

    God bless.

  11. I'm with you, Victor. I can't really give an answer. My reasons change over time & my subjects are all over the map, too.

I love your parody on Shakespeare. Very clever.
