Father Francis Maple.

Speaking of priests - here is one with a guitar: Father Francis Maple. He is a Capuchin friar sometimes called "The Singing Monk" or "The Singing Friar".

  1. He has a very gentle voice Victor. The second song, I haven't hear before, like a prayer almost.

  3. Hello Victor

Thank you very much for posting the videos. Years ago, we had a wonderful parish priest who regularly organised missions in our parish. One memorable year he had two Capuchins conduct the mission. One priest gave all the homilies and the other played guitar and sang and got the congregation singing too. It was a truly wonderful, spiritual mission in every way. The guitar playing friar was a Fr Francis and, although I am not 100% certain, I would go so far as to say I am 99% certain that it is the same Fr Francis. You have revived some very happy memories for me. So thanks again and God bless you.

  4. Hi Breadgirl,

I suspect it's 99.5% certain it was the same Father Francis Maple.

He was based at a Flintshire Friary in Pantasaph for 17 years and was moved to Preston in 2007. He raised more than £1m for charity with his singing. He also wrote a Thoughts for the Day column in the Wrexham Evening Leader for 21 years. He is now in St Walburg's Friary in Preston.

I'm glad the videos revived happy memories.

    God bless you.

  5. Hello Victor
I am now 100% certain it is the same Fr Francis. The two Capuchins who conducted that long ago Mission had come from Pentasaph. The other priest, who was also a Fr Frank, continued to come to our parish for many years whenever our p p was on holiday. So, he became a well known and well loved part of our parish folklore. Thanks for a great trip down memory lane! God bless you.

  7. Father Francis is a saint. When in his precence you just know there is something very calm and special about the man.He has a way of knowing.
Many years ago my mother met Father Francis and our family came to love and apreciate his blessings and his wonderful music. Many years later still I was walking through a shopping mawl in Cheshire and was in a very difficult time of my life and was so sad and lonley about some things. In the distance I heard this voice and it stopped me in my tracks and literaly humbled me.I knew it was Father Francis and Carol.Of course I had to see him.
Years later still my young daughter knows all about Father Francis and used to watch Carol dancing in her pretty dresses...actualy she still watches the dvd.
If you are in touch with Father Francis please pass on my deep and sincere best wishes to him.
God Bless you Father Francis. There is no doubting yoiu are a real saint.

  9. My family came into contact with Father Francis in the 80's. He supported us through a haunting where we were living, and always took the time to write. We eventually moved and lost touch with him, but I have fond memories of the help he brought to my parents, especially my mother, whom I recently lost. I came across one of his letters a few weeks ago, and will always hold him in the highest regard. A truly decent and gentle Man. God bless you Father Francis.

  11. I am from Prestatyn, now living in Melbourne Australia. I often think back to when I was younger watching Father Francis sing-bought a few of his tapes. A few years back now I was visiting Rhyl with my twin sister when we heard his voice-he brought us to tears, happy tears that he was still with us. Such a warm kind hearted person. For all that he has done he deserves a Saint hood. Thank you for letting me post on here and share such fond memories which have and will always stay with me. Kind regards Sarah Beck
